Restaurant ordering platform with merchant dashboard

Two surfaces, one application: an online ordering flow for guests and a merchant dashboard where the business works through the orders that arrive.

  • Next.js
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Node.js

Context

The product consists of a restaurant website with an online ordering flow and a merchant dashboard. Guests order directly through the restaurant's website; the business handles the incoming orders in the dashboard.

The dashboard shows an overview of all orders and lets them be filtered, displays and updates the order status, and carries the administrative functions. The customer side and the merchant dashboard were implemented as connected parts of the same application.

What it does

Customer side

  • Restaurant website
  • Online ordering flow
  • Responsive experience
  • Notifications
  • API integrations

Merchant dashboard

  • Overview of all orders
  • Order filtering
  • Order status display
  • Order status updates
  • Administrative functionality

My responsibility

Responsibility across the project

  1. Planning
  2. Architecture
  3. Frontend
  4. Backend
  5. Database & APIs
  6. Authentication
  7. Deployment
  8. Production operation
  9. Post-launch support

Delivery and operation

  • Set up deployment and hosting and took the application into production
  • Production operation and support after launch
  • Direct client communication throughout

Technical approach

  1. Two surfaces, one application

The online ordering flow on the customer side and the merchant dashboard were implemented as connected parts of the same application. The dashboard brings together the overview of all orders, their filtering, the display and updating of order status, and the administrative functions.

  2. Frontend in React and TypeScript

The frontend of both surfaces was built with React and TypeScript on Next.js. Frontend and backend were both my responsibility.

  3. Backend, database and APIs

The backend was built with Node.js. That covered the database and the application's APIs, as well as the API integrations on the customer side.

  4. Authentication

The application includes authentication; the administrative functions belong to the merchant dashboard. Planning and architecture were mine as well.

  5. Responsive implementation

Both the customer and the administrative interfaces were implemented responsively.
